Capital Priorities
Thanks to the generous support of parents, alumni, and friends, Potomac is able to develop new facilities and learning spaces that are ideal for students' growth and development. In fall 2019, the Spangler Center for Athletics and Community opened its doors for the first time.
The SPangler Center for Athletics and Community
Set peacefully among trees at one end of the wooded, 90-acre campus is a building known as the Spangler Center for Athletics and Community. Paid for entirely through philanthropic support, the center officially opened just before Thanksgiving. It takes up 76,500 square feet and includes a gymnasium big enough to host the entire school; seven squash courts with spectator seating; an indoor track; a student lounge area; and a fitness center, a strength and conditioning room, and a multipurpose studio, all outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment and technology. In combination with the school's existing facilities, the center supports a robust athletics program that fields teams in 26 interscholastic sports.
CJ Remmo, Potomac’s interim director for athletics, says, “Having more places to connect with one another, on both personal and social levels, benefits all of us, especially since this is ultimately a place where people are working really hard toward their respective pursuits. In the end, we’re social beings, and I think this building speaks to that as well. So far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.”
