The Lunch Experience
DINING SPACES and places
Students have the option of being a part of the meal plan or bringing their own lunch. The Potomac School has partnered with Meriwether Godsey, who provide creative, healthy, and flavorful meal options. Dining spaces are available in all divisions, and outside dining is also encouraged when weather permits.
LOWER AND MIDDLE SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
The Potomac School partners with Meriwether-Godsey to offer an optional lunch service to Lower and Middle School families, beginning the first day of school. Meriwether-Godsey provides a weekly menu of healthy, well-balanced meals for students. In addition to our hot lunch options, Meriwether-Godsey offers salad and sandwich bars.
Menus will be posted on Meriwether-Godsey's website each month. Meals are well-balanced and nutritious, yet appeal to young palates. No peanut product ingredients are used in the preparation of these meals, and milk is optional. At the end of each meal, all packaging and utensils, which are made of biodegradable materials, are recycled. Meriwether-Godsey's service is an easy, nutritious, and environmentally-friendly alternative to packing lunch each day.
INTERMEDIATE AND UPPER SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
Meriwether-Godsey Dining Services prepares and serves an array of fresh, wholesome lunch options in our light-filled Upper School Dining Room. Meriwether-Godsey works with as many local ingredients as possible and even incorporates in-season produce from the Upper School garden.
Each day, our Intermediate and Upper School students may choose from:
- Vegetarian and non-vegetarian entrées, served with a choice of at least two cooked vegetables
- House-made soups
- Salad from our salad bar, stocked with seasonal à la carte ingredients as well as prepared salads featuring whole grains
- Fresh-cut and whole fruit
- Yogurt and granola
- Items from our deli sandwich station (which includes panini grills and toasters), including bread, meat, vegetables, and condiments
- Fresh-baked cookies and other desserts
- Spa water, milk, juice, iced tea, and lemonade
The Upper School holds frequent lunchtime conversations with a variety of diverse guests, recently, welcoming Dr. Evan Rachlin, currently the managing director of Blackstone Life Science. He previously served as head of strategy at Moderna, where he led the development of the company's annual long-range plan and helped formulate portfolio strategy. Dr. Rachlin spoke with our students and faculty about the development of the COVID vaccine, as well as the challenges of technology in health.
