Course Description: During the school year, fourth graders will use Math in Focus (MIF), a program based on Singapore Math model. The program focuses on an in-depth understanding of mathematical concepts and problem solving, which. may be unfamiliar to your student if they have not had previous exposure to Singapore Math or Math in Focus. This class aims at introducing basic problem-solving strategies that will help with the adjustment ot the curriculum next school year.

Course Description: The Skills for Effective Writing class is designed for rising seventh graders, who want to build their writing skills in preparation for the coming school year. Through a combination of activities, mini-lessons, modeled examples, and sustained writing practice, students will work towards a stronger command of sentence structure and grammar, with additional emphasis on clarity of expression and organization of ideas. Students will receive individualized attention and feedback on their writing, and each student will be provided a writing reference guide and computer to use during the summer session. Students will also learn best practices for using Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Classroom, and a Chromebook to complete writing assignments.

Students will receive individualized attention and feedback on their essay writing, and each student will be provided a writing reference guide and Chromebook to use during the summer session. Students will also learn best practices for using Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Classroom, other apps, and a Chromebook to complete writing assignments and properly cite sources.

Course Description: This skills-intensive course is designed for rising 9^th graders who would like to refresh their writing skills. We will focus on the basic processes involved in writing effective critical paragraphs: reading for meaning, formulating ideas through the brainstorming process, composing clear and structurally sound sentences, crafting strong assertions, supporting ideas with evidence and analysis, and editing for accuracy. Students should expect to write daily, and they will receive daily feedback on their writing.

Course Description: This week-long course will lay the foundation for a strong start to the upper school experience. Topics covered include strategies for notetaking, reading, studying, and test-taking; metacognition and the art of "self-coaching"; getting physically and digitally "set up for success"; and aspects of psychology related to attention, memory, and learning.

Course Description: This August Academics Speech Class is designed for both new and seasoned students to develop strong writing and delivery skills ahead of the speech and debate season. Through structured exercises and feedback, participants will refine argument construction, persuasive techniques, and confident presentation to prepare for competitions and public speaking opportunities.
