Course Description: In this class, students will explore Spanish language and culture through participation in conversation, games, and songs. They will learn through storytelling, creative movement, art, and more. This immersive experience will allow them to begin to develop an “ear” for the spoken language, including tones, accents, and rhythms. The objective is to make the student’s initial exposure to Spanish a relaxed, enjoyable, and enriching experience.

Course Description:  Students in this class will continue to learn vocabulary and the language at a deeper level. We will learn to count till 50 and explore vocabulary about food, animals, body parts, and many more. The group will also begin working on forming sentences using the vocabulary learned in class. (Prerequisite: Spanish - Beginner Level )

Course Description: Join us for an hour of creative fun led by Oksana Ehle! This fall, let your child's imagination soar with our exciting arts and crafts class. Designed to capture the vibrant colors and natural beauty of the season, our engaging activities will inspire creativity and celebrate the wonders of autumn. Your child will create nature-inspired art, explore various artistic techniques, and enjoy a season of artistic exploration and fun. 

Course Description: Let’s learn different chess strategies in this class. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons will range from basic rules to advanced tournament strategies. Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of the club time. In-person tournaments are at an additional cost. The group will have an opportunity to participate in weekly practice tournaments and an event with world champion Magnus Carlsen or Judit Polgar, the best female chess player of all time.  All skill levels are welcome.

Our youngest panthers will participate in games that they have enjoyed in Physical Education class and will also be introduced to traditional team sports such as basketball, soccer, and flag football. Students will improve their overall coordination and work on their throwing, catching, and kicking skills. All skill levels are welcome.

Course Description: Comic Book Chronicles will start with the basics of comic art, focusing on comic layout, types of comic strips, and character design. Students will learn the fundamentals of character design, including how to create dynamic characters that express emotion and personality through their appearance and actions. Students will also learn how to sketch, ink, and color their characters, giving them the depth and complexity needed to come to life on the page. These classes are designed for artists of all levels, from beginners to experienced creators who want to expand their skills.

Course Description: Students will learn and explore at their own pace and build a strong foundation in Robotics. The fall season will conclude with an exciting in-house tournament on Monday, December 9, save the date, as it will be a day of celebration and accomplishments. 

Course Description: Welcome to the world of metal robots! The competitive VRC robotics program runs from September 18 through February with potential continuation based on qualification tournaments. Students work in teams to design, build, and code metal robots for the new 24-25 VEX Challenge. In this program, students must attend each Wednesday practice, 3:15-5:30 pm. Students will also be expected to dedicate at least one conference block a week and two hours of weekly homework to work on the design notebook, coding skills, and/or research as posted on Google Classroom. As well, students must also be able to commit to the following tournament schedule:

1. Scrimmage at Potomac, Saturday, Nov 2 in Chester Gym, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
2. MS Only FrostByte VRC Tournament at Potomac - Dec 14 (all day) in Chester Gym
3. Potomac Classic Tournament - Jan 19 (all day) in Spangler
4. 8th Grade Signature Event, Gateway to the West, Tridelphia, WV - January 28-30, 2025 (overnight trip)
5. Potomac Skills Only Event - Feb 15, 2025
6. Virginia State Tournament for qualifying teams - late Feb/early March, TBD
