Tennis Highlights

Boys Tennis Undefeated in MAC Play

Potomac boys tennis continues their strong season into mid-April with a record of 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the MAC. The Panthers are ranked number four in the Virginia state rankings and are tied with Sidwell Friends for the number one spot in the MAC. In the past two weeks, the boys have played five matches and won four of them. After defeating Bishop O'Connell 5-2 and Maret 6-1, the boys suffered their first loss of the season against a red-hot Landon School team.

The loss only motivated the Panthers to train harder the following days, which resulted in some of their best tennis of the season – sweeping Saint Andrew's and Flint Hill.

Boys Tennis Promising Start
The boys tennis team is off to a promising start through the first few weeks of the spring season. The Panthers have been on a roll winning their first four matches.

After narrowly losing to Paul VI last year, players and coaches were hungry for revenge. With their usual #1 singles player, Teddy Courtauld '26, on the mend and state rankings on the line, the Panthers stepped up to the challenge. Despite losing at the #1 and #2 singles spots, the boys took home the remaining five matches to secure a 5-2 victory. After winning their #1 doubles match 6-2, 6-4, the Schirmeier brothers, Cooper '25 and Ben ‘23 facilitated the extra push by cheering their teammates on from the sidelines. Notably, their energy helped Michael Fleming '23 close out a gritty match at #3 singles 6-4, 6-4.

The boys did not lose a single match in their emphatic sweep of St. Stephens & St. Agnes. Eli Butler '24 who has been one of the top three singles players on the team since his freshman year, cruised to a 10-0 victory at the #2 singles spot. Meanwhile, freshman Teddy Courtauld won 10-2 at #1 singles, and first-year varsity team members Henry Stein '24 and Zach London '24 displayed impressive chemistry to win their #3 doubles match 10-1.

The Panthers also convincingly defeated Trinity Christian 9-0 and Highland School 10-1.
