Swimming Highlights

Swimmers Compete at Metros

The swim team competed in the Metros meet at Germantown Indoor Aquatics Center in Germantown, MD, this past Saturday. The meet featured several teams from the MD-DC-VA metro area. Potomac had several athletes qualify to swim at the meet, including the girls 200 Medley Relay (Kate Reynolds ‘26, Madeleine Steves ‘26, Sabine Barbee ‘26, and Paige Schedler ‘25); Barbee and Steves in the 200 IM; Kate Douglas ‘26 and Maren Schwarz ‘25 in the 50 Free; Brock Schedler ‘23 in the 50 Free; Aliyah Majeed-Hall ‘26 in the 100 Fly; Will Walters ‘24 in the 100 Fly; Barbee and Douglas in the 100 Free; Ale Wick ‘25 in the 100 Free; girls 200 Free Relay (Claire McEwen ‘26, Steves, M. Schwarz, and Douglas ‘26); boys 200 Free Relay (B. Schedler, Gregory Zubler ‘23, Alex Christ ‘23, and Wick); Reynolds ‘26 in the 100 Back; Walters ‘24 in the 100 Back; Steves ‘26 in the 100 Breast; and B. Schedler in the 100 Breast.

Douglas finished in sixth and eighth place in the 50 and 100 Free, respectively, while B. Schedler earned 12th and 13th place finishes for the 50 Free and 100 Breast, respectively. Additionally, it was great to have Majeed-Hall back in the water for the 100 Fly and a high school personal best time! 

Boys Swim Team Repeats as MAC Champs

Potomac's boys swim team won the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference championships for the second straight season by scoring 494 points. The Flint Hill Huskies were second with 453 and Georgetown Day third with 430. The Panthers won with only 10 swimmers and had no divers in the meet at Georgetown Prep School in Maryland. Girls Varsity Swim Competes at ISL Championships

Last Friday, the girls varsity swim team competed against 14 other teams during the ISL championships. The Panthers had a tremendous meet, placing sixth overall against some stiff competition. Highlights include fourth place in the 200 medley relay (Sabine Barbee ‘26, Maren Schwarz ‘25, Kate Douglas ‘26, and Paige Schedler ‘25), ninth place in the 200 IM by Madeleine Steves ‘26, seventh place in the 100 butterfly by Douglas, fifth place in the 200 freestyle relay (Schwarz, Steves, Sam Taylormoore ‘23, and Douglas), eighth place in the 100 backstroke for Barbee, fourth place in the 100 breaststroke for Schwarz, sixth place in the 100 breaststroke for Steves, and sixth place in the 400 freestyle relay (Barbee, Taylormoore, Schwarz, Douglas). Congratulations, team!

Swim Sweeps Flint Hill and SSSA

On Thursday night, January 5, the boys and girls swim teams took on Flint Hill and St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School. The Panthers swept all four dual meets. The boys beat Flint Hill (100-52) and SSSA (107-38), while the girls won against Flint Hill (104-41) and SSSA (98-53).

The boys won numerous events: 200 medley relay (Will Walters ‘24, Brock Schedler ‘23, Arav Bhargava ‘24, and Ale Wick ‘25), Walters ‘24 in the 200 IM, Schedler ‘23 in the 50 free, Bhargava ‘24 in the 100 fly, 200 free relay (Sasha Minsky ‘24, Greg Zubler ‘23, Bhargava ‘24, and Schedler ‘23), Walters ‘24 in the 100 back, Bhargava ‘24 in the 100 breaststroke, and the 400 free relay (Schedler ‘23, Wick ‘25, Minsky ‘24, and Walters ‘24). 

The girls also had an outstanding day winning events in the 200 medley relay (Sabine Barbee ‘26, Madeleine Steves ‘26, Maren Schwarz ‘25, and Kate Douglas ‘26), Leila Bodner ’24 in the 200 IM, Douglas ‘26 in the 100 free, Steves ‘26 in the Co-Ed 500 free, 200 free relay (Kate Reynolds ‘26, Schwarz ‘25, Sam Taylormoore ‘23, and Douglas ‘26), Steves ‘26 in the 100 breaststroke, and the 400 free relay (Sabine Barbee ‘26, Maren Schwarz ‘25, Madeleine Steves ‘26, and Kate Douglas ‘26). 

Some highlight swims were Steves '26 and Schwarz '25 finishing 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke, Amory Imperatore '25 making the State Bonus Cut in the 50 free, and Erim Ozcan '25 for executing a perfect race strategy for the 500 free.

Girls squash vs. Mercersburg

The girls varsity squash team beat Mercersburg Academy 7-2 during their first hosted match at the new Spangler courts. The top seven players in the team’s lineup did not drop a game, and many Panthers held their opponents to a total of fewer than four points per match.
