Upper School Academic Support

The Upper School Learning Resource Center (LRC) is open to all students and most will use it at some point to find academic resources and strategy support. Learning specialists work with students to develop and strengthen executive functioning skills that include:

  • Study skills
  • Test Taking Strategies
  • Organization
  • Planning
  • Note-Taking Systems
  • Time Management Methods

Potomac does provide a limited number of accommodations for students with documented learning differences. Students seeking accommodations are required to provide a recent psycho-educational or neuropsychological report for both school-based and standardized testing accommodations. Learning specialists will review the assessments and develop an appropriate learning plan that includes accommodations within the general curricular setting. Prospective families considering Potomac are invited to call a learning specialist to discuss accommodations that we provide.

Writing Center
The Potomac School Writing Center offers one-on-one tutoring for students on all aspects of their writing across the curriculum. Staffed by teachers and selected volunteers from the senior class, the Writing Center provides help to students as they brainstorm, research, organize, draft, and revise their writing. We strive to both enable students to submit their best work on individual assignments and to develop their skills and confidence as writers.

Math Science Collaboration Center (MSC2)
The Math and Science Collaboration Center provides a space to facilitate collaboration among peers as they work to deepen their understanding of math and science. MSCC is staffed by peer helpers and teachers , who are available for on-demand help with courses at every level of the math and science curriculums. These peer helpers provide students with accessible guidance on understanding course content, developing study strategies, and experienced advice on meeting teacher expectations.
