Save the world with Super Heroes! Build the hideouts and vehicles of your favorite caped crusaders and learn what makes them not only Super Heroes, but Super Hero Engineers! An experienced Play-Well instructor guides young heroes as they design, build, and save a city where ingenuity and imagination can solve any conflict.

Hula on down to the LS Tech Lab to learn the code used by Roblox and other popular games! Lua is a simple, straightforward programming language, and is perfect for students just beginning their coding journey, as well as those who want to grow and dive deeper into coding and game development. This class will provide students with an opportunity to use Roblox Studio to work on their own self-directed projects with teacher guidance.

Chess Club is designed to foster an interest in chess among those who may be too young to be able to handle the complex abstract concepts involved with serious chess, and to generate enthusiasm for those who are ready for the full game. We want kids to grow with others of the same age and have them form friendships as they improve their skills. They learn that improving at the game is the fun part, not winning, and as long as they are trying to do their best they will improve. Students are placed in groups based on their ability and everyone plays games each week and receives lessons. We make learning chess fun!  

This ETC class is a natural fit with the 5th-grade science curriculum using the VEX IQ platform, and a perfect opportunity for any 4^th or 5^th grader who enjoys building, programming, and driving robots. Students will engage in the engineering design process while creating and programming robots capable of completing tasks both in driver control and autonomous modes. This class will help students learn the fundamentals of the VEX IQ robotics programming and materials they will use again if they continue with robotics in 6th through 8th grade.

This introductory robotics class will give 6^th and 7^th graders the chance to try out the VEX IQ platform before the fall competition team forms. The VEX IQ platform incorporates advanced concepts into an accessible package, while naturally encouraging teamwork, problem solving, and leadership. Working with the VEX IQ platform gives the students a foundation in engineering design and programming.  This platform is also supported by a free powerful computer aided drawing program (CAD), designed specifically as an introduction to CAD. This class is for beginners only, no experience necessary!

This introductory robotics class will give 6^th and 7^th graders the chance to try out the VEX IQ platform before the fall competition team forms. The VEX IQ platform incorporates advanced concepts into an accessible package, while naturally encouraging teamwork, problem solving, and leadership. Working with the VEX IQ platform gives the students a foundation in engineering design and programming.  This platform is also supported by a free powerful computer aided drawing program (CAD), designed specifically as an introduction to CAD. This class is for beginners only, no previous robotics experience necessary!

This robotics class will give current 7th and 8th graders the opportunity to learn the VEX V5/EXP platform in the Upper School Robotics Lab, including designing, building, and programming with metal parts. Working with the VEX V5/EXP platform will directly apply to students who wish to participate in the VEX Robotics Competition, but also will give students a solid foundation in engineering design, computer science, as well as teamwork, collaboration, and leadership. This class is open to 7th and 8th graders who have previous robotics competition experience on a Potomac School team.
