An independent K-12 school on a beautiful wooded campus, 3 miles from Washington, DC

The Potomac School’s Health Care team is comprised of our two Athletic Trainers, Precious Barnes and Erin Mulligan; and our school Nurse, Ellen Grass.

Our Athletic Trainers specialize in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries. Both Precious and Erin are certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and licensed by Virginia’s Board of Medicine.

Precious Barnes received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University, and her Master of Science degree from Northeastern University. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Athletic Training from Indiana State University. She serves as a member of the Virginia Athletic Training Association’s Public Relations Committee. Prior to joining The Potomac School, Precious worked for a physical rehabilitation facility.

Erin Mulligan received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina. Upon graduation, she received her Masters of Science degree from the George Washington University where she was also the graduate assistant athletic trainer for the GW volleyball team. Erin then went on to be the athletic trainer for Georgetown’s women’s lacrosse and football teams for four years prior to arriving at the Potomac School.

Potomac School Athletic Emergency Action Plan

The Potomac School athletic department has developed a written emergency action plan that should be followed in the event of a medical emergency during athletics. All coaches should be familiar with this document and their roles and responsibility in the event of an athletic injury emergency. Any questions should be directed to the head athletic trainer, assistant athletic trainer or athletic directors.
