Athletic Health Services

Our Athletic Trainers provide prevention services, emergency care, clinical examination and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.  Both Athletic Trainers are certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine. The Potomac School’s Athletic Health Care team is composed of our two Athletic Trainers, Precious Barnes and Kare Tribbie.

Policies and Procedures

Precious Barnes received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University, her Master of Science degree from Northeastern University, and her Doctorate of Athletic Training from Indiana State University. She serves as a member of the Virginia Athletic Training Association’s Public Relations Committee and has published in the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation. Prior to joining The Potomac School, Precious worked for a physical rehabilitation facility.

 Kara Mendler

Kara Mendler is excited to join the Athletic Health Services team at The Potomac School.She is passionate about helping student-athletes excel both on and off the field. Kara
received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech, where she earned a varsity letter in sports medicine for her contributions
towards the football program. She earned her Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from Boston University after having completed several clinical rotations in NCAA Division I Athletics including BU Men’s Lacrosse, Men’s Ice Hockey, Dance, and Swim & Dive. Prior
to joining The Potomac School, Kara served as an athletic trainer at St. John’s College High School and Flint Hill School. In her free time, she enjoys golfing with her husband, walking
her dog, Dunkin, and trying new recipes to satisfy her sweet tooth.

Athletic Training Facility Hours

The Athletic Training facility is open from 2:00 - 5:30 pm, or by appointment. During games, the Sports Medicine staff will be on campus attending our Potomac Panthers events. If you need to reach an Athletic Trainer, call 703-873-5541.
