The varsity football team won their game on Saturday against St. John Paul the Great 22-0. The Panthers shut down their opponent with outstanding defensive play. Hudson La Force ’22, Kayden La Force ’22, and Devin Dunn ’23 led the team in tackles, while Luke O'Reilly '22 posted two interceptions. The offense got their running game going with great efforts from Blaze Jones ’23, Marcel Gaskins ’23, and Nick Webster ’23. Kevin Check ’22 blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, and Stefan Harvey ’25 added a field goal for the team. The Panthers are next in action this Saturday at Bishop Ireton at 1:30 pm.
Girls varsity tennis had a great win over Holton-Arms School 4-3 last Friday when comebacks were the word of the day. Maia Phillips ’23 had a tremendous comeback victory at #3 singles, and the same was true for Sonali Sachdeva ’25 and Deja Dimps ’25 at #2 doubles. The team has a 4-0 recond to start the season.
This past Tuesday, the Panthers defeated National Cathedral School on our courts 5-2, highlighted by Lauren Foster ’23 winning 10-1 at #1 singles; her overall record on the year is now at 6-0. The team heads to Richmond on Friday to play Collegiate at 4:30 pm. Click here for a photo gallery.
After two close losses in the first week of the season, the varsity field hockey team beat Brookewood 5-0 on Tuesday to improve to 1-2. Ella Adamec ’23 and Elizabeth Rossotti ’23 each scored two goals and Lea Saba ’23 scored once. The defense was solid in securing the shutout. The team is looking forward to their first ISL game at Holy Child on Friday. Click here for photos.
The varsity golf team had a strong start to the season with a convincing win over Maret 152-171. Low scores were turned in by Ryan Huppe ’22 (37), Teddy Ross ’22 (37), Josh Shapiro ’22 (39), and Weston Hicks ’22 (39). Click here for a gallery of golf photos.
Potomac's varsity football team came up a bit short in its home opener against a tough Norfolk Academy team, 7-0, this past Saturday. Holden Smith '22, Marcus Burrell '23, and Max Gyllenhoff '23 led a strong defensive effort for the team. Marcel Gaskins '23, Blaze Jones '23, Drew Turner '23, and Malik Shelton '23 combined for over 190 yards for the offense. The Panthers will next see action against St. John Paul the Great in Dumfries, VA, on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
Girls varsity tennis got off to a great start to the season last Thursday when Potomac defeated Bishop O'Connell High School 7-0 on our courts. All the girls played well, but the highlight of the day was senior Audrey Lee's comeback victory at #2 singles,11-9. The Panthers host St. Stephens & St. Agnes School this Thursday at 4:15 pm and then Holton Arms this Friday at 4:30 pm in two huge ISL matches.
We are thrilled to announce that Coach Nancy Smalley has been promoted to the Associate Athletics Director at the Potomac School.
Nancy Smalley has coached for over 35 years, she is the head of our field hockey program and is the head JV girls lacrosse coach. Prior to arriving at the Potomac School, Coach Smalley served as the Athletics Director for 19 years at Madeira.

We are thrilled to open our athletic facilities to students this summer. The two articles below detail the opportunities that will be available. In order to join us for any summer programming, participants must submit this waiver. It can be emailed to Erica Woda or brought to the student's first athletic session.
We are pleased to offer the following sports this summer. Coaches will reach out directly to their programs with the summer schedule. All activities will take place in a 4:00-6:00 pm window.
