Potomac's Alumni Governing Council

The mission of the Alumni Association is to foster a sense of community among Potomac School alumni and to cultivate relationships with other members of the community, including current students, current and past teachers and administrators, and current and past parents.

In order to accomplish this mission, the Governing Council of the Alumni Association shall propose and conduct activities, designed to include all alumni, which will bring members in contact with the school and bring each other together. Additionally, the Council will foster communication between alumni and other members of the Potomac community.

The Alumni Association hopes by accomplishing its mission, Potomac School alumni will help to further the school's welfare, while at the same time promoting the values originally instilled in us by our school.

When I graduated from Potomac in 2012, I did not fully appreciate what I was leaving behind. The campus and community had been part of my everyday life for so long that they simply felt familiar. Like most graduating seniors, I was eager for college, new experiences, and greater independence.

It did not take long for my perspective to change.

Over the years, I began to recognize how much of what I carried into college, the workplace, and my relationships had been shaped at Potomac. My parents, my brother, a member of the Class of 2009, and I often find ourselves saying, “Good old Potomac,” when we cross paths with a former teacher or classmate or notice one of those distinctly Potomac habits showing up in our lives.

For me, those habits include speaking with confidence while remaining open to other perspectives, thinking critically, treating people well, and stepping forward to participate rather than remaining on the sidelines. Potomac encouraged us to pursue a wide range of interests and to value excellence in the classroom, on the field, and on the stage. That foundation helped me navigate college while playing varsity lacrosse, and it continues to shape how I approach my professional and personal life.

The farther I moved from my time as a student, the more clearly I understood how unusual that foundation was. What once felt like an ordinary school experience came to feel like an extraordinary gift.

That growing sense of gratitude is what led me to the Alumni Governing Council. Through the AGC, I have had the opportunity to reconnect with Potomac, build relationships with alumni across generations and professions, and contribute to a community that played such an important role in shaping me.

As I begin my term as AGC president, I hope to help more alumni find their own way back to Potomac. That might mean attending an event, mentoring a younger alum, sharing professional expertise, volunteering, or simply reconnecting with a classmate. There is no single way to be involved.

Potomac’s alumni community is strongest when each of us brings our own experiences, interests, and perspectives to it. I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside you as we continue building that community together.
