How To Start
The Potomac School is one of the many DC area independent schools that has partnered with Ravenna for the submission of inquiries and applications to manage the entire application process. Through Ravenna, you will be able to register for Admission events (Tours, Information Sessions), submit your online application, electronically request teacher recommendations, track your application progress, and view the decision notification.

Please note, Potomac does not issue the I-20, which is the necessary paperwork for a student Visa.
Lower School: Grades K-3
Kindergarten–Grade 3
(Please note: Kindergarten applicants must be five-years-old by September 1 of their kindergarten year.)
- Tours are offered for adults only between mid-September and the end of January; we recommend that you schedule as soon as possible.
Information Sessions
Kindergarten–Grade 3
- We will offer in person and virtual Lower School Information Sessions this fall. The information session is an opportunity to learn more about the Lower School from faculty and administrators. Please register through Ravenna.
Virtual Parent Meeting
Kindergarten, Grade 1

Assessment/Visit Information
Kindergarten, Grade 1
- Once you have completed the application, you will select an in-person group visit date for your kindergarten and grade 1 applicant. Group visits take place on Saturday mornings in January.
Grades 2, 3
- Once you have completed the application, you will register for an at-home assessment to be mailed to you in early January.

- Optional Recommendation Form (K-12): May be sent to an additional individual familiar with the applicant. For example, an athletic coach, religious or scout leader, or an art or music teacher
Transcript Information
- Kindergarten: Submit a teacher narrative or progress summary.
- Grades 1-3: If available, a transcript from your child’s current school or a progress summary
Applicants Living out of the Area
- Families and applicants from overseas or outside the area are not required to come to the campus. For Kindergarten and Grade 1, please schedule a virtual parent interview once you have completed the application in the Ravenna portal.
Middle School: Grades 4-6

- Tours are offered between mid-September and the end of January; we recommend that you schedule as soon as possible.
Information Session
Grades 4 - 6
- We will offer a Middle School Information Sessions on December 8, 2022. The information session is an opportunity to learn more about the Middle School from faculty and administrators. Please register through Ravenna.
Parent Meeting
Grades 4 and 6
- parent meeting lasting one half hour.
Saturday Group Campus Visit/Assessment
Grades 4 and 6
- Once you have completed the application, you will select a group visit date for your fourth or sixth grade applicant.
Grade 5

- Testing requirements for out-of-area applicants: the SSAT (see www.ssat.org for testing information) or the ISEE (see www.erbtest.org for testing information). The PSAT or SAT is also accepted for applicants to grades 10 and 11.
