General Research
(useful for research in many subjects)
ProQuest ProQuest users can access their Research Library and SIRS Issues Researcher products. These databases provide access to thousands of sources including audio & video works, blogs, podcasts & websites, books, conference papers & proceedings, dissertations & theses, government & official publications, journals, magazines, newspapers (historical & current).

SIRS Issue Researcher offers multiple viewpoints (pro & con) for many contemporary topics.

JSTOR JSTOR is a database with more than 12 million journal articles, books, and primary source materials.
General Reference Sources
Encyclopedia Britannica Complete encyclopedia, with related Internet sites and index guides.
Very Short Introductions Unfamiliar with a topic or subject? Very Short Introductions are written by experts.  Entries are longer than encyclopedia entries but not as in depth as journal articles.These are great resources to get to know a topic before researching it in depth.
Oxford English Dictionary The definitive English Language dictionary.
American National Biography One of the best resources for researching the lives of Americans, famous or otherwise. This resource has over 19,000 profiles.
History
ABC-CLIO This ABC-CLIO collection includes databases focused on American History, Ancient and Medieval World History, and Modern World History. Remember to select one of the databases so you can get better results that target your research query.  Try clicking on "advanced search" so you can limit your results to just the time period or topic you are researching.
World History In Context This collection from Gale includes materials from ancient times to modern day.
US History In Context This collection from Gale includes materials focused on American History.
ProQuest Historical Newspapers - New York Times Historical Newspapers allows users to research for information and articles from the New York Times for the years 1851 - 2016.
Salem Press eBook Collection These eBooks contain primary source material as well as interpretations of these sources.  Access to the 2016 World Political Yearbook is also available. Login required even on campus (please see Subscriptions & Passwords page for username and password).
African American Studies Center This collection of works gathers articles about African Americans from various published reference works written and edited by leading scholars in the field.
Black Freedom Collection from ProQuest ProQuest has collected primary source material related to the continued opposition African Americans have faced on the road to freedom. It includes historical newspaper articles, pamphlets, diaries, correspondence and more from specific time periods in U.S. history.
Time Magazine Vault Time Magazine's digital service goes back to 1923. Log in via the Subscriptions & Password  page for access.
Gale ebook Collection  The library has purchased several ebooks from Gale, including resources about the U.S. Civil War.
Science

Grove Dictionary of Art This resource has over 30,000 articles about all aspects of the visual arts from prehistory to the present.
