Last Friday, five eighth graders represented Potomac’s Intermediate School at the St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School Middle School Diversity Conference. The event was attended by more than 120 students from all over the Mid-Atlantic region. The participants attended workshops about being a change agent and an ally, learned how to make their middle school voices heard, and explored what it means to go from well-meaning to well-doing. In the near future, the students who participated will share what they learned with their peers.

On Monday, IS French students welcomed the winter season by singing “Vive le Vent” (“Jingle Bells”) and spreading holiday cheer as they caroled through MS and LS hallways. They then offered lunchtime entertainment for younger students, who enjoyed a special French luncheon—a feast of crêpes, quiches, jambon-fromage, and other traditional fare prepared by parents and teachers. Un grand merci à Mesdames Barbee et Potter for their organization and leadership. Bonne Année et Merci à tous!
Last Wednesday was Community Action Day in the IS. Seventh grade students and advisors visited a recycling center, built trails on campus, and considered how they could lead Potomac’s recycling effort across campus. The eighth grade students and advisors engaged in meaningful work at various community partners across the DMV and came together for the first Sandwich Day of the year back on campus! Congratulations and thanks to all IS students and teachers for embodying a true generosity of spirit. See photos from the day.
Our seventh grade Spanish Advanced class saw a matinee performance for Colores de Flamenco at the GALA Hispanic Theatre on Thursday, November 14. GALA Hispanic Theatre is a leading national center for Latino performing arts based in Washington, D.C. Since its founding in 1976, GALA has been dedicated to sharing the vibrant cultures and artistic expressions of the Latino community. Through innovative productions, educational programs, and community engagement, GALA aims to inspire and connect audiences, nurture emerging talent, and preserve the rich heritage of Latino arts for future generations. After the performance, they enjoyed a Cuban lunch from La Colada Shop, which gave students a taste of the Caribbean. Ask the students about the empanadas!
On Monday, the IS gathered to honor Veterans Day. Two student speakers shared reflections at the assembly. Judah Green ‘29 reflected on the history and significance of Veterans Day, and Lexi Weimer ‘29 made a personal connection to her grandfather’s heroic service. Following the student speakers, Potomac’s Chief Operations Officer, Ross Davis, spoke to the students about his time in the Air Force. Mr. Davis showed the students how Potomac’s Core Values were complementary to the values he learned during his time of service with the Air Force. Read his remarks and view the gallery.
