Getting to School
The Potomac School offers an extensive school bus transportation program, allowing us to serve students from throughout the Washington metro area. We offer an extensive fee-based neighborhood bus program and a free shuttle system with 11 stops. Potomac is committed to alternate fuel sources, including the use of propane fuel within our bus fleet.
In order to maintain the high quality of life on campus and meet our traffic reduction commitments to our neighbors and Fairfax County, we require all students in Grades 1 through 11 to take the bus to and from school. Students in Grade 11 who drive are provided off-campus parking and a shuttle to school. Additionally, parents may drive their kindergarten students to Potomac, and students in Grade 12 may drive themselves and their siblings. All other students must take either our neighborhood or shuttle bus service.
We also offer parents the opportunity to track their child's bus location in real time through a GPS Automatic Vehicle Locator system. This service is available through the Parent Portal of our password-protected CampusNET site.
Neighborhood Bus Service (fee based)
Potomac provides friendly, convenient, and safe round-trip bus services to neighborhoods in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We offer over 23 different bus routes, as well as a modified late neighborhood bus service at 5:45 pm for students participating in after-school sports and other activities, and a shuttle service that runs until 7:30 pm. The Potomac School is proud of our outstanding safety record and the high standard of service provided by our transportation staff. Trained, certified commercial bus drivers conduct an orderly, safe, and enjoyable journey to and from campus.
Shuttle Service (Free)
We offer 11 convenient drop-off locations, spread across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The free shuttle bus service is staffed with a professional bus driver who greets students, takes attendance, and accompanies students on the brief drive to campus.
Potomac buses pick up students near the Eastern Market and Union Station Metro stops, at the East Falls Church Metro stop, and, as needed, at the McLean Metro stop.
