Faculty Positions

Director of the K-12 Academic Program

The Potomac School, a K-12 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks an experienced administrator to serve as Director of the K-12 Academic Program effective July 2019.

The Director of the K-12 Academic Program will provide oversight and leadership of Potomac’s educational program, assist with faculty hiring, and help implement strategic priorities and school initiatives.  As a member of Potomac’s senior leadership team, s/he will work closely with the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, and four Division Heads.

The Director of the K-12 Academic Program will be a bright, energetic leader with strong classroom experience, who functions as an independent-minded but team-oriented player. S/he will be able to ensure alignment of the divisions’ curricula by working collaboratively with faculty and fellow administrators.   Additionally, s/he will lead the K-12 Academic Council, provide oversight of the learning support specialists and the divisional Academic Deans and Department Chairs, and lead the faculty growth and development process and Fellows program. The Director of the K-12 Academic Program will be an effective and organized manager, a compelling public speaker with a strong intellect, as well as a fair-minded, transparent, and engaged leader who values interpersonal relationships and genuinely enjoys working with faculty, students and their parents.

The individual selected for this role will be a leader who possesses a deep understanding of school communities; has experience leading curriculum review and growth; will maintain consistent, efficient, and timely management of school initiatives; and supports a healthy balance among academics, the arts, athletics, co-curricular activities, and other opportunities.

Head of Intermediate School (Grade 7-8)

The Potomac School, a K-12 independent school in McLean, Virginia, seeks an experienced administrator to lead its Intermediate School effective July 2019.

The Intermediate School Head is responsible for leading the division (grades 7 and 8), its 180 students and 33 faculty members, and for overseeing day-to-day operations, academic and co-curricular programs, student life, faculty professional development, and other related aspects of the Intermediate School. As a member of Potomac’s senior leadership team, the Intermediate School Head will work closely with Head of School, who is beginning his sixth year at the school, and the Assistant Head of School.

Substitute Upper School History Position

The Potomac School, a K-12 independent school in McLean, VA is seeking a Substitute Upper School History teacher, expected to begin mid-November and last for approximately 6-8 weeks.

The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred, and a significant History teaching experience. This position is responsible for teaching Global Perspectives and Citizenship and AP Comparative Government & Politics to students in grades 10-12.

Manager of Campaigns and Major Gifts

The Potomac School, an independent K-12 school in McLean, VA, seeks a Manager of Campaigns and Major gifts. This role is a full-time position and member of The Potomac School’s Advancement Office with responsibility for the overall management and day-to-day operations of the current comprehensive campaign through 2021, and subsequent major gifts initiatives identified by the School’s leadership thereafter.  Reporting to the Director of Advancement and working in partnership with the campaign consultant and senior staff, the Manager ensures that all aspects of the campaign run smoothly and efficiently, including execution of the campaign operating plan, adherence to the campaign timetable, and achievement of the campaign goals.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising; experience working in a campaign environment preferred
  • Proficiency in data base management and moves management functionality
  • Excellent communications skills, including strong writing skills
  • Strong quantitative skills; experience creating donor reports and analysis preferred
  • Experience in prospect research with working knowledge of external databases and resources available for obtaining information
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and independently manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills that foster positive relationships with diverse populations
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and email and demonstrated ability to quickly learn various software programs
  • Strong organizational skills and unfailing attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM

The Potomac School, a K-12 independent school in McLean, VA, seeks a qualified candidate for the position of an Assistant Director of the Extended Day Program. This part-time position, reporting to the Director of the Extended Day Program, acts as a liaison between the parents, students, and staff members. The position is scheduled to work 17.5 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. Additional hours may occasionally be available during special events or activities on campus.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to follow and stay up to date with the procedures and guidelines outlined by the Virginia Department of Social Services, be supportive of children, and interact with all individuals in a positive manner. The candidate should be organized, flexible, and willing to take on new responsibilities.

A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2+ years of related work experience in a daycare or educational setting is required. First aid and CPR certification is mandatory.

BUS DRIVERS

CDL - SCHOOL BUS DRIVER (Part-Time)

The Potomac School, a private independent K-12 School in McLean, VA is looking for a qualified bus driver. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving morning and evening bus routes. This is a 10-month, split-shift position that offers:

  • Competitive pay: $26.96 per hour based on credentials
  • Additional runs, which include field trips, late buses, and event buses
