Ryan Jordan, Head of Upper School

Ryan Jordan is the Head of Upper School at Potomac, bringing over three decades of experience to his role. Before joining Potomac, Ryan spent more than 10 years as the head of the Upper Division at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida, an independent day school serving students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. In that position, he oversaw a division of 640 students and more than 80 faculty and staff.

Ryan's educational philosophy centers on "passion, optimism, and a desire for excellence." He is dedicated to fostering a transformative educational experience for students by creating an environment built on kindness, integrity, and mutual respect.

His extensive career also includes serving as Upper School Head at Calverton School in Huntingtown, Maryland, and as Dean of Students at Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut. Ryan is recognized for his strong interpersonal skills, his success in faculty recruitment and development, and his expertise in curriculum and program development, college counseling, and athletics. He is known for his ability to build strong relationships with students, faculty, and parents, and for his commitment to cultivating a supportive learning environment.

Ryan is a graduate of Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended Haverford College, where he was a two-sport athlete in basketball and lacrosse. He holds a Master's degree in Education Administration from Teachers College at Columbia University, with a concentration in private school leadership.
