Dr. Alexandra Sundman, Assistant Head of School for Academics

Dr. Alexandra Sundmanbrings more than 30 years of extensive experience and a profound commitment to educational excellence. Her career spans all levels of education, from elementary school to college, demonstrating a deep understanding of student development and a proven track record in academic leadership.

Before joining Potomac, Dr. Sundman served as the Head of the Middle School at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Maryland, for three years. In this role, she was instrumental in shaping the PK-12 academic program, leading faculty recruitment, and spearheading new professional development initiatives. She championed innovative teaching methods, including project-based learning and the integration of AI, and also redesigned faculty evaluations across all divisions.

Prior to her tenure at Stone Ridge, Dr. Sundman spent over a decade at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C. There, she held various administrative and teaching positions, including professional development coordinator, English department chair, and English teacher.

Dr. Sundman holds a Ph.D. and an M.Phil. in Musicology from Yale University, and a B.A. in History from Boston University. She is recognized for her strong and graceful communication style, approaching leadership with humility and humor. Dr. Sundman is a passionate advocate for excellent teaching and consistently centers students in all her endeavors.
