The Potomac School is Hooked on Books

Book Fair 2013

The Potomac School Book Fair is one of our oldest continuous traditions. The goals of the Book Fair Committee are to raise funds in support of the three Potomac libraries AND to put books in the hands of as many people as possible!

There is something for every reader at Book Fair.  We hope you will join us often through the two weeks of activities in March: donating items to the Book Drive, sorting donated books, assisting with sales of used and/or New Books, enjoying volunteer lunches and joining in the Diversity Committee’s Community Night when Book Fair is open until 7:00pm.  You will work alongside friends old and new and have a share in Potomac’s love of books!

The Book Fair Committee will get started early in January with a meeting for volunteers. Please check these pages and PawPrints in early autumn for details of the date, time and place.

Book Fair & Beyond

Book Fair is a whole-community event and we are pleased to be associated with other Potomac School traditions.

During the week of Book Fair sales, the Alumni and Development Office hosts a reception for past parents and alumni and the PA Diversity Committee organizes Community Night to celebrate the cultural, culinary and performance diversity of our Potomac families.  Book Fair stays open late on both these evenings so participants can browse and buy while they socialize.

When Book Fair ends on Thursday afternoon, a new project begins.  We organize the remaining books to be distributed to a variety of non-profit organizations in the area.  Friday morning is an Upper School Community Service Day and a large group of students box up the last books, break down the tables and clear the LSAR – all in about two hours!  The Book Fair committee is always looking for ways to spread the Potomac School’s love of books and reading.  Please do not hesitate to give us the name of an organization that would benefit from a box or boxes of books.

These pages will be updated regularly with new information as the year progresses.  Please contact Book Fair 2013 Chairs: Sheila Fleming, sofleming2@gmail.com or Jennifer Taylor, jenny_mike@msn.com.
