The Counselor Apprentice program develops creativity, self-confidence, and leadership skills. Counselor Apprentices (CAs) spend the first few days of the session learning strategies and skills for becoming a valuable assistant and working positively with younger campers. After observing various activities and age groups, CAs choose an activity in which they wish to assist. The CA's spend most mornings helping our counselors implement lesson plans for the campers. This program gives teens work experience and teaches them to take initiative and manage responsibilities.
Each week, the CA's not only assist in a classroom but participate in leadership training skills and activities, individually and as a group. In addition, on some days after lunch, they go off campus for service learning projects, team building exercises and enjoy some social time together while playing mini-golf, museum visits, picnics, and more!. At the end of their camp session, each CA meets individually with the Director of the program to evaluate their summer together.
To ensure the best experience for our younger campers and for the CAs, acceptance to the program is contingent on an interview; interviews are informal and are approximately 15 minutes long. All applicants (even returning CAs) must go through the interview process. Repeat enrollment is not guaranteed. Please Note: An application must be on file before an interview will be scheduled. After registering, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an interview.
