"I have worked for The Potomac School Summer Camp for the past 10 years. During the school year I teach technology at Chesterbrook Elementary and Middle School. My favorite thing to do with the PAWS is arts and crafts projects. Children are so receptive at this age. I love their cute innocence."

I have worked with young children for many years, as a nanny and as a teacher. I taught as a preschool teacher for two years at St. Charles School and now teach Head Start at Brookfield Elementary School. I love working with children of all ages, but especially enjoy teaching the earliest learners, finding great joy in the love and creativity that small children bring to the classroom. I also love to read, write, do arts and crafts, play the cello, cook, swim, and spend time with family and friends. I am very excited to work with the Paws campers at Potomac this summer!

"I am a third year teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools and I currently teach fifth grade. In my free time, I love to run and am also a Jazzercise instructor. I absolutely love Disney World and have visited over 20 times. I am very excited to be returning to Summer@Potomac as a Day Camp lead teacher for my third year. I love dressing up and creating fun-filled activities for the many exciting weekly themes! I work to fill every day with as many memorable experiences as possible for my campers every day!"

I

love being a summer camp teacher at Potomac! It's a great excuse to be creative and silly with the kids. Exploring the campus and watching the kids get excited about nature...don't tell the boss, but I'd do this job for free

Hi, my name is Maddie Scherer and I am so excited to be a Counselor's Assistant for Cubs! I am 18 years old and will be attending college this fall. I have been going to and working at the Potomac Camp since I was 3 years old. Camp has been a fixture of my life and I am so excited to be able to give Cubs campers wonderful experiences like the ones I was given!

William Butler Yates wrote, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”

For the first time in my teaching career, I really feel that a school embodies that. During the school year, I am a Potomac School faculty member. My son recently became a part of the Potomac community as well and I look forward to watching him grow and learn in such a wonderful and caring environment. Summer @ Potomac has been a wonderful experience for us both and we look forward to enjoying another year at camp together!

I am very excited for my first year as a Summer@Potomac staff member! I attended Summer@Potomac as a camper for 6 years and was a Counselor Apprentice for 2 years. I am thrilled to be the assistant counselor for music in the Panther Day Camp and especially eager to meet all of the campers and share my love of music and singing with them!

My fourth Summer at Potomac I will be returning to make some exciting discoveries with Nature Science. I can’t wait to explore the beautiful woods and streams we have right on site at camp as well as take advantage of the gorgeous state parks we have just a bus ride away in Maryland and Virginia! One of my favorite parts of Nature Science camp is solving riddles and singing group songs on field trips. This year I’m coming to camp right after spending a year in Paris, France with the study abroad program at Smith College, where I am pursuing a Double Major in Drama and French.

“Maddie first came to Summer@Potomac as a camper in the early 2000s. She has loved working as an Assistant Counselor in Nature Science Camp for the past four years, and is very excited to take on the new role of Head Counselor this year. Maddie has not only attended and worked at Summer@Potomac for many years, but she also attended The Potomac School as a Lifer from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. She is currently attaining her BSRN at Boston College, hoping to become a nurse anesthetist in the future. Maddie looks forward to exploring the outdoors and having fun and memorable adventures with the campers this summer!"

“I have always loved working with children. I enjoy participating in the unique programs at the Potomac Summer Camp, allowing children the opportunity to find their own adventures every day.

This is my first year with Summer@Potomac and I am so excited to be a part of the team! Previously I have worked at a sleep-away camp in the Pocono Mountains, PA where I had various leadership roles including Group Leader. I am eager to share my knowledge of all things camp, as I encourage the Counselor Apprentices in their new role. I have been a 4th grade teacher for 5 years at Colvin Run Elementary School and in addition to teaching I lead the school's Costa Rica trip during the school year.

“I have been coaching robotics for 9 years, robots on land, water and space!” "

I am very happy to be back this summer-- my fifth at Potomac!-- teaching cooking. I have taken cooking classes all over the world, including in China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Chile. At Potomac, I love to explore international flavors with the cooking campers, and hope that everyone will try everything at least once. After camp each day, you can probably find me watching Nationals baseball. During the school year, I teach kindergarten at Claremont Immersion School in Arlington.

This is my first year as a camp lead with Summer@Potomac but am no stranger to summer adventure. I owned and operated a theatre summer camp for five years. I also led a youth theatre group at the Latin American Youth Center for several years. For the past 25 years, I have performed throughout the Washington Metro and NY areas; acting for TV/film, commercials, print work, and theatre. I enjoy homeschooling 2 of my 4 kids, traveling, meeting new friends, and theatre. At present, I am the Potomac School’s Assistant Director for Extended Day Programs and will be part of the OFF We Go team this summer.

“During the rest of the year I am a professional stage manager and freelance musician. But for almost 30 summers I've gotten to have fun with the kids at Summer@Potomac and show off my board shorts collection!"

"

This is my second year being a camp counselor at Summer@Potomac and I'm ready for camp to start! I am a junior at Villanova University, working towards a BA in Psychology with minors in Education and Spanish, hoping to one day be an elementary school teacher.
