THE ARTS AT POTOMAC

For over 100 years, Potomac students have explored the worlds of music, visual arts, and performing arts, developing their skills and confidence while deepening their habits of artistic expression. Our faculty lead by example as mentors and fellow explorers. Within an organized and stimulating environment, teachers help facilitate dialogue between students and raw materials, musical instruments, and their own inner cast of characters.

Music

Music at Potomac

You’ll learn rhythm on African drums, hit high notes on the recorder, practice rapping, or sing a cappella or ancient hymns. Music, whether it's singing or playing an instrument, is central to our weekly assemblies, class plays, and larger community gatherings. As students progress, opportunities in chorus, band, bells, strings, and jazz expand and beckon.

Observation, imitation, and play are intrinsic for children and the foundations of their understanding of others. Theatre is a natural extension of play, from creating characters to the search for adventure and drama. At Potomac, we offer every student multiple opportunities to experience the stage.

Visual Arts at Potomac

At Potomac we don’t just offer exposure to the arts – we offer experience. Our students are not just learning about the work of others, or even emulating them. Our students are creating art for themselves, in their own way, stretching the bounds of their own abilities, every day.
