The Potomac School’s Health Care team is comprised of our two Athletic Trainers, Terry Cummings and Precious Barnes; and our school Nurse, Ellen Grass.
Our Athletic Trainers specialize in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries. Both Terry and Precious are certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and licensed by Virginia’s Board of Medicine.
Terry Cummings has worked with Potomac School athletes for over 25 years. He has a Master of Science degree from Indiana State University. He earns continuing education credits through conferences, lectures, and journals. Prior to joining The Potomac School staff, Terry worked for the football and baseball programs at Arizona State University and for the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Precious Barnes received her Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University, and her Master of Science degree from Northeastern University. She serves as a member of the Virginia Athletic Training Association’s Public Relations Committee. Prior to joining The Potomac School, Precious worked for a physical rehabilitation facility.
Potomac School Athletic Emergency Action Plan
The Potomac School athletic department has developed a written emergency action plan that should be followed in the event of a medical emergency during athletics. All coaches should be familiar with this document and their roles and responsibility in the event of an athletic injury emergency. Any questions should be directed to the head athletic trainer, assistant athletic trainer or athletic directors.
Athletic Training Facility Hours
The Athletic Training facility is open on regular school days from 2:00 - 5:30 pm, or by appointment. During games, the Sports Medicine staff will be around campus attending our Potomac Panthers events. If you need to reach an Athletic Trainer, call 703-749-6302.
Weekend and Holiday hours are determined based on practices/games that are held on those days.
