Director of Annual Fund
The Director of Annual Fund is responsible for developing and implementing an effective, comprehensive Annual Fund program that raises approximately $1.5 million each year. Reporting to the Director of Development and partnering with staff, volunteers, Trustees, and the Development Committee, the Director of Annual Fund develops and implements strategies and programs to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual gifts. This candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with three to five years of development experience, preferably in an independent school environment. A proven track record of successful fundraising, leadership and communications is a must.
Development Associate
The Potomac School, a private K-12 school in McLean, VA, seeks a Development Associate to provide general administrative and office support to multiple supervisors. Responsibilities include fielding telephone calls, receiving and directing visitors, word processing, data entry, photocopying mailing and filing. Expertise with MS Word and Excel is essential, working knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and presentation software (PowerPoint) is preferred. Must have 2+ years of related experience preferably in an independent school or nonprofit development office. This candidate must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and have strong communication skills.
Director of Alumni Relations
The Director of Alumni Relations is a full-time position responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and carrying out all programs, special events and activities related to Potomac’s Alumni Relations program. In addition to implementing a multi-faceted program that serves thousands of alumni worldwide, the Director is a strategic leader, fundraiser, and team player, providing vision, direction and support to strengthen alumni involvement with and financial support of the school. The successful candidate serves as an ex-officio member of Potomac’s Alumni Governing Council. A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of professional alumni relations and development experience, preferably in an independent school environment is required. This candidate must have a proven track record of successful fundraising, leadership, and communication skills.
The Potomac School is seeking a part-time writer (average of 15 hours per week, flexible schedule) to write and edit a range of electronic and print publications, including The Term (twice yearly school magazine), Capital Campaign materials, the Summer Programs brochure, alumni, and other publications, as time allows. The ideal candidate will have excellent and substantial writing and editing experience, including magazine, newsletter, or brochure writing, and will have InDesign or comparable desktop publishing experience. Excellent organizational abilities, interpersonal skills, attention to deadlines, and willingness to assist with new projects are essential. In addition, the ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of independent schools. The writer/editor will work with The Potomac School Communications Director.
The Potomac School, a K-12 private independent school, seeks an HR Coordinator to provide HR support in the areas of recruitment, compensation, benefits, HRIS, answer day-to-day questions on policies and procedures and also cross-train with payroll function. This candidate will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The candidate must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with employees at all levels. A minimum of two years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree is required.
The Potomac School, a K-12 private independent school, is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to handle the payroll for 250+ employees. The payroll is processed via Ceridian so current Ceridian experience is preferred. The position involves the transmission of biweekly and monthly payrolls. Compile all payroll data and reconcile all payroll runs, i.e. garnishments, vacation time, insurance, 403B, health benefit and other miscellaneous deductions. Candidates should have 3+ years payroll experience and MUST be proficient in Microsoft Excel. The candidate selected for this position will report directly to the HR Manager and also work closely with the CFO on the salary budget process.
The Potomac School, a private K-12 school in McLean, VA, seeks an experienced Director for their Summer Programs Department. Will be responsible for managing the operations and personnel of a large day camp program (180 seasonal employees and 1,000 campers). Must have proven management and leadership experience working within a team environment. Experience working with payroll systems and Excel is required, FileMaker a plus. Responsibilities include:

Health Educator (50% part time)
The Potomac School seeks an experienced health educator for students K-12. The health educator is responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment to promote the positive development of adolescents. He or she will provide developmentally appropriate curriculum to promote the physical and intellectual growth of adolescents and positive guidance to support the social and emotional development of children. He or she will establish positive and productive relationships with families to provide consistency and support for the positive development of children. Candidates for this position should have a Masters degree with formal education on the health education field.
Lower and Middle School Substitute Teachers:
Potomac's Lower School and Middle School are searching for qualified teacher substitutes for the coming school year. Candidates should have at least a bachelor's degree and experience working in a classroom environment.
Administrative Assistant to the Head of Upper School
The Potomac School is seeking an Administrative Assistant to the Head of the Upper School. This position requires an energetic self-starter who truly enjoys the school environment and is able to foster a climate of warmth and welcome for students, parents, and faculty. The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational skills for a broad variety of administrative tasks, the ability to prioritize multiple projects; verbal and written English language proficiency, and highly knowledgeable using MS Word and MS Excel. A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Is Science Teacher
The Intermediate School is seeking a teacher for one section of 7th grade science in 2008-09. This represents 20% of a full time position. The curriculum is one that is focussed on life and environmental science, and a college degree in biological or environmental science is a pre-requisite for the job. Teaching experience is also preferred. A block schedule is used, and the class meets for 80 minutes three days a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:15AM- 9:45AM. This is a perfect position for a retired teacher who is interested in working with wonderful, directed students in an atmosphere of intellectual inquiry.
