Getting to School

The Potomac School offers an extensive school bus transportation program, allowing us to attract students from throughout the Washington metro area. Our entire fleet of Neighborhood and Shuttle Buses runs on biodiesel, illustrating our commitment to model environmental stewardship.

In order to meet our traffic reduction commitments to our neighbors and to Fairfax County, and to improve the quality of life on our campus, we require all students in grades 1 through 11 to take the bus to and from School. Students in Grade 11 who drive are provided off campus parking and a shuttle to School. Parents may drive their Kindergarten students, and students in grade 12 may drive themselves and their siblings, but all other students take either our Neighborhood or Shuttle Bus Service.

We also offer parents the opportunity to track their child's bus location in real time through a GPS Automatic Vehicle Locator system through the Parent Portal of our password-protected CampusNET.

Neighborhood Bus Service (fee based)

Potomac provides friendly, convenient and safe round-trip bus service to neighborhoods in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. We offer over 20 distinct bus routes, as well as Late Neighborhood Bus service at 5:45 pm for students participating in after-school sports and other activities. The Potomac School is proud of our outstanding safety record and the high standard of service provided by our transportation staff. Trained, certified commercial bus drivers conduct an orderly, safe and enjoyable journey to and from campus.

Shuttle Service (Free)

We offer nine convenient drop-off locations close to Potomac School, and in Washington, DC and Maryland. The free Shuttle Bus Service is staffed with a professional bus driver who greets students, takes attendance and accompanies students on the brief drive to campus.

Car

Students in Grade 11 who drive are provided off campus parking and a shuttle to School. Parents may drive their kindergarten students, and students in grade 12 may drive themselves and their siblings, but all other students take either our Neighborhood or Shuttle Service.
